Lionheart (1990) 4K UHD Delayed as MVD Moves the Project to New Restoration Team

MVD has provided an update on its upcoming 4K UHD release of Lionheart (1990), stating that the project has been delayed due to production setbacks. The label is now targeting a late spring or early summer release window.
According to a post on the MVD Rewind Collection Facebook page, the team encountered multiple challenges during the creation of the new 4K master. The initial elements provided were sourced from the international version of the film, which required the restoration of the correct U.S. opening titles so the release presents properly under the Lionheart title. The label noted this process proved more difficult than expected.
After the film was scanned in 4K, the restoration and HDR grading performed by the originally selected post-production company did not meet the quality standard MVD set for the release. Rather than move forward with that work, the label made the decision to transfer the project to a different post-production team. MVD identified the new team as the same group responsible for recent restorations of Swamp Thing, Rain Man, and Ghoulies.
The new team has restarted the HDR work from scratch and is also creating a Dolby Vision grade for the release. MVD noted that this change means the final 4K UHD presentation will include Dolby Vision, which was not part of the original production plan.
The release date has been pushed back multiple times as a result of these changes. MVD is currently targeting a late spring or early summer release for Lionheart (1990) on 4K UHD and has indicated that additional details will be shared as they become available.
