Warner Archive Collection is releasing Out of the Past (1947) on 4K UHD/Blu-ray in September, bringing Jacques Tourneur’s film noir to 4K UHD for the first time. The two-disc set is built from a new 2026 master, scanned in 4K from the original nitrate camera negative.

Out of the Past follows Jeff Bailey (Robert Mitchum), a former private investigator trying to leave his past behind while running a small-town gas station. An acquaintance pulls him back into that past, along with a mobster played by Kirk Douglas and a woman played by Jane Greer who is tied to both men. Rhonda Fleming also stars, and Tourneur directs.
The 4K disc presents the film in 2160p with Dolby Vision, framed at 16×9 1.37:1 with side mattes that preserve the original black and white photography. Fidelity in Motion handled disc authoring and compression. Audio is DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono, with English SDH subtitles.
Extras open with an introduction from Turner Classic Movies “Noir Alley” host Eddie Muller, followed by a feature-length commentary from film noir author and specialist James Ursini. Four audio-only radio recordings are also included in the set: Robert Mitchum appears in Hallmark Playhouse’s “We Were Expecting You at Dakar” from February 27, 1947, and three Suspense broadcasts, “Death at Live Oak” from May 16, 1947, and “The Story of Markham’s Death” from October 2, 1947. Kirk Douglas appears in a fourth Suspense episode, “Community Property,” from April 10, 1947.
The Out of the Past two-disc set from Warner Archive Collection releases September 1, 2026.
