Toy Robot Video lit a fuse under physical media collectors this week. The label posted a single image to its Facebook page, an explosion captioned “November is going to be explosive 🧨,” and named no film. Fans needed almost no time to solve it: the still comes from The Corruptor (1999), the Chinatown crime thriller starring Chow Yun-Fat and Mark Wahlberg, and the label’s own founder has all but confirmed the guess.

Toy Robot Video’s November tease for The Corruptor

Directed by James Foley, The Corruptor drops Chow Yun-Fat into New York’s Chinatown as Nick Chen, a decorated NYPD detective secretly in the pocket of the gangsters who run the neighborhood. Wahlberg plays Danny Wallace, the clean-cut rookie partnered with him as a gang war heats up, and both men are hiding loyalties the other cannot see. The 1999 New Line Cinema release was Chow’s second Hollywood film, landing a year after The Replacement Killers.

The teaser did not stay a mystery for long. On the Blu-ray.com forums, user MifuneFan played detective, spotting New York City fire alarm call boxes and Chinese-language signage in the image and matching the shot to the film’s Chinatown explosion sequence.

Then the man behind the label chimed in. Forum user cmac, identified as Cliff MacMillan, who runs Toy Robot Video, a second imprint under Arrow Video, replied to the guess with “No one can try to fool you LOL. We have 3 other action films too.”

That reply does double duty. It seemingly confirms The Corruptor while teasing three more action films for the same window, none of them named.

What nobody has yet: a format, a date, or cover art. Toy Robot Video has not said whether The Corruptor lands on 4K UHD or Blu-ray, and the Facebook caption’s nod to November is the only timing hint so far. For now, fans have an explosion, a wink from the label’s founder, and an action-heavy November waiting to be announced.
