Masters of the Universe 4K UHD Blu-ray from Toy Robot Video

Toy Robot Video is releasing Masters of the Universe (1987) on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray in September. For the first time on home video, the label is presenting a newly unearthed Preview Cut of the film featuring never-before-seen footage. Both editions arrive as part of Toy Robot Video's September 2026 releases.

Gary Goddard's live-action take on the Mattel toy line stars Dolph Lundgren as the heroic He-Man and Frank Langella as the evil Skeletor. It lands squarely in the 1980s sword-and-sorcery fantasy tradition, trading the genre's medieval kingdoms for Planet Eternia and the castle of Grayskull, both under threat from Skeletor, who wants to take over the planet. A group of freedom fighters led by He-Man are accidentally transported to Earth by the mysterious Cosmic Key, an object that holds the power to turn Skeletor all-powerful. Once on Earth, He-Man forms an alliance with two teenagers as they try to find the key.

The main attraction is the Preview Cut itself. Toy Robot Video describes it as a newly unearthed version of the film, presented for the first time on home video, with new and extended scenes plus alternate takes.

The release comes in two formats built on the same remaster. There is a 2-disc Blu-ray edition and a 2-disc 4K Ultra HD edition. Each carries the same Preview Cut, the same extras, and the same September 15 date, so the choice between them comes down to format rather than content.

Both editions share an identical package of bonus material:

Masters of the Universe (1987) releases September 15, 2026 in the US and Canada.
