Vinegar Syndrome opens pre-orders for Manhunter on 4K UHD and Blu-ray on November 1, 2026. Vinegar Syndrome created the Theatrical Version restoration of Manhunter (1986) exclusively for Manhunter on 4K UHD and Blu-ray. Michael Mann directed Manhunter from Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon, with William Petersen, Joan Allen and Brian Cox in the cast.

About Manhunter (1986)

A vicious serial killer nicknamed the “Tooth Fairy” due to his penchant for biting his victims has savagely killed two families. With his unit having hit a wall in identifying the assailant, FBI supervisor Jack Crawford attempts to convince his former top profiler, Will Graham, to assist with the case. Graham is reluctant, still shaken by his work apprehending the brilliant yet sociopathic cannibal Dr. Hannibal Lecktor, but eventually agrees. Fearing that another murder will soon take place, Graham realizes he must do the unthinkable: solicit help from Lecktor. As he ventures deeper into the world of serial murder and madness, his own perceptions of reality begin to falter. With paranoia and guilt setting in, he begins to question how close he can get to madness without going insane himself.

Manhunter 4K UHD theatrical version and Blu-ray director’s cut

Vinegar Syndrome restored the Theatrical Version of Manhunter in 4K from the 35mm interpositive. The Vinegar Syndrome restoration reproduces the original 1986 theatrical presentation of Manhunter, with the intended framing and color timing. The Theatrical Version does not use the digital shot repositioning and muted color grading found on some recent editions. Vinegar Syndrome presents the 120-minute Theatrical Version on 4K UHD with Dolby Vision and on Blu-ray. Physical Media News covered Manhunter (1985) returns on 4K UHD in a 4-disc collector’s set on July 20, 2026.

The Legacy Director’s Cut is Mann’s alternate cut of Manhunter and runs 124 minutes on Blu-ray only. The Legacy Director’s Cut originally came out on DVD in the United States. MGM supplied the HD reconstruction of the Legacy Director’s Cut.
