Jean-Jacques Beineix’s Diva, the film that ignited a foreign language film renaissance in the UK, returns in a stunning new 4K and Blu-ray edition this October.

Released as part of STUDIOCANAL’s Vintage World Cinema line, this modern French classic is restored from the original 35mm negative, preserving its iconic visual style and atmospheric score.

The story follows Jules (Frédéric Andréi), a Parisian postman obsessed with opera who secretly records a rare live performance by American diva Cynthia Hawkins (Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez). When the bootleg tape is mistaken for evidence linking the chief of police to a criminal vice ring, Jules finds himself hunted by two ruthless killers, sparking a stylish chase through the Paris underground.

Diva marked Beineix’s directorial debut and launched the Cinéma du look movement of the 1980s. Adapted from Daniel Odier’s crime novel written under the pseudonym Delacorta, the film blends noir tension, romantic fantasy, and visual flair. This restored edition features a 4K scan by TransPerfect Media, with full restoration work overseen by STUDIOCANAL and supported by the CNC.

A landmark in French cinema, Diva remains a haunting meditation on beauty, obsession, and art.
