Kino Lorber will release Big Jake on 4K UHD and Blu-ray on January 19, 2027. Big Jake includes a new HDR/Dolby Vision master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. George Sherman directed Big Jake (1971), and John Wayne stars as Jacob “Big Jake” McCandles.
About Big Jake (1971)
In this action-packed Western, screen legend John “Duke” Wayne (El Dorado) stars as Jacob “Big Jake” McCandles, a husband who has not seen his wife (Maureen O’Hara, Rio Grande) in over 9 years. But he returns home after his grandson is kidnapped by a vicious gang fronted by the outlaw John Fain (Richard Boone, The Shootist). While the law gives chase in rickety automobiles, Jake saddles up with an Apache scout (Bruce Cabot, King Kong) and a box of money, even though paying a ransom is not how Jake plans to exact good old frontier justice. Directed by Hollywood ace George Sherman (Santa Fe Stampede, Hell Bent for Leather), this late-career classic from The Duke is spiced with humor, first-class gunfights and a wonderful Western cast featuring Patrick Wayne, Christopher Mitchum (Rio Lobo) and singer Bobby Vinton (The Train Robbers).
