Kino Lorber will release El Dorado 4K UHD with a Blu-ray disc in the US on January 26, 2027. The 2-disc set has a new HDR and Dolby Vision master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. It also adds a new audio commentary by Julie Kirgo and Peter Hankoff. Howard Hawks directed El Dorado (1966), with John Wayne and Robert Mitchum in the lead roles.
The film and its cast
The film on El Dorado 4K UHD is a Paramount western. Wayne and Mitchum star alongside James Caan, Charlene Holt, Paul Fix and Ed Asner. Asner also turns up in the extras, where he joins critic Richard Schickel and author Todd McCarthy for an audio commentary on both discs.
About El Dorado (1966)
Mitchum plays to perfection an alcoholic but gutsy sheriff who relentlessly battles the dark side of the Wild West, ruthless cattle barons, and crooked “businessmen.” “The Duke” gives an equally adept performance as the sheiff’s old friend who knows his way around a gunfight.
The new 4K master
Both discs in El Dorado 4K UHD take their picture from the same 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The new HDR and Dolby Vision master is on the UHD. A buyer without a 4K player still gets a new HD master from that scan on the Blu-ray.
