Umbrella Entertainment will release Angel’s Egg in a 4K UHD + Blu-ray combo pack on December 3, 2025. The film arrives in a worldwide first, director-approved 4K restoration, marking its debut on Ultra HD. A numbered Collector’s Edition, featuring new extras and premium packaging, is available exclusively through the Umbrella webstore.

Film significance

Angel’s Egg (1985) united Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell) and Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy). A landmark of experimental anime, the film is revered for its sparse dialogue, allegorical storytelling, and painterly imagery. Umbrella’s restoration brings the film to 4K UHD for the first time, aligning its presentation with its critical reputation.

Film synopsis

In a drowned city, a girl protects a mysterious egg she believes to be angelic. She encounters a boy with a massive rifle who searches for a bird from his dreams. Their fragile bond ends when the boy breaks the egg, shattering the illusion that sustained them.
