The Criterion Collection’s customer support has confirmed that the Blu-rays of Paths of Glory and Dr. Strangelove in The Complete Kubrick are the same discs as the label’s standalone releases from the 2010s. They are not new transfers made from the 4K restorations.

The 30-disc 4K UHD and Blu-ray set arrives October 20, 2026.

What Criterion’s support email says

A collector asked Criterion directly and posted the reply to the r/criterion subreddit. The reply came from Jill in Criterion customer support:

“Glad to help! The Blu-rays for PATHS OF GLORY and DR. STRANGELOVE included in the KUBRICK set are the same Blu-rays found in our standalone releases. The only difference is that the supplements now included SDH subtitles. Please let us know if you have any other questions. All the best, Jill”

Criterion’s reply, as posted to r/criterion

While the email names two films, collectors in the r/criterion thread where the email surfaced have stated that the set will also reuse The Killing, whose standalone Criterion Blu-ray dates to 2011, and Barry Lyndon, whose 2017 Blu-ray was included in Criterion’s standalone 4K UHD package of the film.

One thing of note, the supplements on the reused discs now carry SDH subtitles. The email cites that as the only difference between them and the older standalone releases.

Which discs are new and which are not

The set includes a 4K disc and a Blu-ray for every film, and every 4K disc is new. Four Blu-rays come from the older masters: The Killing, Paths of Glory, Dr. Strangelove and Barry Lyndon.

The rest are newly authored from the 4K remasters and encoded by Fidelity in Motion, according to the thread. Eyes Wide Shut is among them, sourced from the 4K remaster.

The Complete Kubrick collects 4K restorations of Stanley Kubrick’s 13 features plus three shorts. The features are Fear and Desire, Killer’s Kiss, The Killing, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut. The shorts are The Seafarers, Flying Padre and Day of the Fight.

Criterion has also said that some titles from the set will get standalone releases. However, which titles will be released as standalone discs has not been confirmed.
