Criterion has confirmed that some films from its upcoming Complete Kubrick box set will also be sold on their own. The label has not said which titles, or when they will arrive.
The confirmation came in an email from Criterion’s customer service team, not a formal announcement. A Reddit user, u/jegross2, posted a screenshot of the reply to r/criterion. A representative named Kseniya wrote:
I can confirm that there will be some standalone releases available in the future from THE COMPLETE KUBRICK set but we’re not ready to share which specific titles and those release dates just yet. We will be sure to make announcements as details are finalized, so please stay tuned.
Criterion announced the Complete Kubrick set on June 22, and it releases on October 20, 2026. The set collects all 13 of Stanley Kubrick’s feature films, plus three of his early shorts, across 30 discs. Every film gets a new 4K restoration, with the original mono soundtracks alongside restored 5.1 mixes. The box also includes about 25 hours of interviews, documentaries and other extras, plus a 4K restoration of Vivian Kubrick’s Making “The Shining” documentary and new commentary tracks from Kubrick historians Lee Unkrich and Michael Benson.
For collectors who do not want to buy all 13 films at once, or do not like oddly sized box sets, this email is the first sign that Criterion plans to make some of them available separately. It is not clear yet whether every film in the set will get a standalone edition, or only a select few.
