BFI Brings Vernon Sewell’s Taut Thriller Strongroom to Blu-ray in February 2026

BFI will release Vernon Sewell’s Strongroom on Blu-ray on February 23, 2026. The 1960 British crime film, long regarded as a model of lean storytelling, makes its High Definition debut with this Region B release.

About the film

When a bank robbery in suburban London goes sideways, three small-time crooks trap the bank manager and his secretary inside the vault before fleeing with the money. Their plan unravels once they realize the pair will run out of air within hours — forcing the thieves to choose between escape and a potential murder charge.

Directed by Vernon Sewell, Strongroom distills the tension and moral weight of its premise into a brisk 80 minutes. Over the years, the film has gained recognition from filmmakers including Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, and Edgar Wright for its precision and restraint.

Technical presentation

The Blu-ray presents Strongroom in High Definition for the first time anywhere, featuring English audio and optional English Hard of Hearing subtitles. The disc is Region B and runs 80 minutes.

BFI’s Strongroom Blu-ray offers the 1960 British crime thriller in High Definition for the first time, giving collectors the definitive edition of Vernon Sewell’s tense and tightly constructed film.
