Elijah Wood's Maniac Gets Its First North American 4K UHD Release from Severin Films

Severin Films is releasing Franck Khalfoun's Maniac (2012) in a two-disc 4K UHD and Blu-ray collection in June, the first time the film has been available on 4K UHD in North America. The set arrives as part of the Severin Summer Sale 2026.

Maniac is a horror film told almost entirely through the eyes of its killer, a young man whose mind seethes with madness while his body commits unspeakable acts of depravity. Elijah Wood stars, with Nora Arnezeder co-starring, in the remake produced by Alexandre Aja, Thomas Langmann, and William Lustig, who created the 1980 original.

The two-disc collection includes a 4K UHD disc and a Blu-ray with both presenting the 89-minute feature from a 4K scan. The film is framed at 2.39:1, with English 5.1 and English 2.0 audio tracks and closed captions on both discs.

As with other recent Severin 4K releases, the label has assembled over three hours of new and archival material across the set. An audio commentary with director Franck Khalfoun, actor Elijah Wood, and executive producer Alix Taylor appears on both the UHD and the Blu-ray, alongside the trailer. The Blu-ray includes the bulk of the supplements, beginning with Red Lucie Red Blood, an interview with actress Megan Duffy, and Monsters To Maniacs, an interview with prosthetic make-up supervisor Mike McCarty.

Also on the Blu-ray is Maniacs: The Twists & Turns Of A Potential Franchise, a set of interview out-takes from The Joe Spinell Story featuring William Lustig, Luke Walter, Caroline Munro, Buddy Giovinazzo, Tom Rainone, Joe Cirillo, and others. The Making Of MANIAC and a second trailer round things out on disc two.

The release ships in a slipcover designed by Jaxon Northon and is region free.

The Severin Summer Sale begins June 26, 2026.
