Film Masters is releasing Battle of the Worlds (1961) on Blu-ray in July. The Italian science fiction picture has been newly restored from archival film elements, and Film Masters is issuing it as a manufactured-on-demand BD-R.
Battle of the Worlds came out of the height of the Italian science fiction craze, the same 1960s wave of Italian popular genre filmmaking behind pulp comic adaptations such as Kriminal. Scientists puzzle over a runaway asteroid nicknamed “The Outsider” as it begins orbiting Earth, and a fleet of lethal flying saucers then makes its intentions clear. The film runs 81 minutes and is rated TV-PG.
The restored presentation is framed at 1.85:1, with English audio in Dolby Digital 2.0. Closed captions and a chapter menu are on the disc.
