Film Overview
Love Exposure is a 2008 Japanese comedy-drama written and directed by Sion Sono. The film follows Yū Honda, a teenager raised in a strict Catholic household who becomes obsessed with committing “real sins” to satisfy his father’s demands for confession. His life collides with Yōko, a fierce young woman who mistakes Yū’s cross-dressing alter ego for her destined love, and Aya, a manipulative member of a cult that pulls the characters into escalating conflict. The story blends family trauma, identity, sexuality, and religious pressure across a sprawling four-hour narrative that became one of Sono’s most acclaimed works.
