The Stunt Man Makes Its 4K UHD Debut from Transmission This February

Transmission, a sublabel of Radiance Films, is bringing Richard Rush’s The Stunt Man to 4K UHD Blu-ray as part of its February 2026 release slate. Newly restored in 4K by Radiance Films and limited to 5,000 copies, the set marks the definitive home video release of the 1980 cult classic. It is the second title being released under the Transmission label, and follows the upcoming release of Night of the Juggler (1979).
A cult favorite about illusion, control, and chaos
After returning from Vietnam, Cameron (Steve Railsback, Lifeforce) is a fugitive drifting through California. When he stumbles onto a World War I film set run by the eccentric director Eli Cross (Peter O’Toole, Lawrence of Arabia), he slips into the role of a stunt double to evade the police. As Cross’s production grows increasingly dangerous, Cameron realizes the boundary between movie magic and manipulation is perilously thin.
Directed by Richard Rush, The Stunt Man blends black comedy, action, and psychological drama into one of the most inventive films of its era. Despite a troubled release, it earned three Academy Award nominations, including Best Director and Best Actor, and remains one of Peter O’Toole’s most acclaimed performances.
4K restoration and presentation
The release features a new 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative, presented in Dolby Vision HDR on 4K UHD and standard Blu-ray. Viewers can choose between a 5.1 DTS surround mix or the original uncompressed mono track, with optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Extensive features and extras
Transmission’s edition includes a comprehensive lineup of new and archival material, with documentaries, interviews, and commentary tracks that explore the film’s production and lasting influence:
