Synopsis
In 17th-century Moldavia, the malevolent Princess Asa and her brother Prince Igor Javutich are executed for witchcraft and vampirism. Two centuries later, a pair of doctors unwittingly revive Asa by disturbing her crypt. Reawakened, she unleashes a dark vengeance, using her undead powers and chilling kiss to possess others and target her ultimate prey—Princess Katia, her own living descendant and doppelganger.
Black Sunday marked the directorial debut of Mario Bava, who instantly redefined Gothic horror with striking black-and-white cinematography and atmosphere. Originally released in Italy as La maschera del demonio, the film gained global acclaim under its English title, becoming a cornerstone of Italian horror cinema and launching Bava's legendary career.
