Kino Lorber is releasing Ray (2004) on 4K UHD and Blu-ray in February under their KL Studio Classics line. The release features a new HDR and Dolby Vision master, new audio commentaries, and a host of archival extras.

Film Overview

Ray is a biographical drama that covers roughly three decades in the life of musician Ray Charles (Ray Charles Robinson), following his childhood in Florida, the loss of his sight, his early work on the road, and his rise as a recording artist who blends gospel, rhythm and blues, and popular song.

Directed by Taylor Hackford and written by James L. White from a story by Hackford and White, the film stars Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles, with Kerry Washington, Clifton Powell, Aunjanue Ellis, Regina King, and others in supporting roles.

The production was independently financed, then distributed by Universal Pictures, and it became a box office success. The film received critical acclaim for its performances and musical staging, earning several Academy Award nominations and winning Oscars for Best Actor and Best Sound Mixing.
