John Woos Bullet In The Head 4K Blu-ray Shout Studios Hong Kong Cinema Classics

Shout! Studios will release Bullet in the Head as a three-disc 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray set in January under its Hong Kong Cinema Classics line. The edition features a new 4K scan, Dolby Vision presentation, newly translated English subtitles, and a disc of special features.

Synopsis

Set in 1967, three friends leave Hong Kong after a fatal run-in with a local gang. They head to Saigon as black market runners, are caught in the war, and fall into Viet Cong captivity. Their bond fractures as they fight to survive.

Video presentation

The feature is sourced from a new 4K scan of the original camera negative and presented in Dolby Vision at 2160p with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 on the UHD disc. The Blu-rays offer 1080p presentations at the same aspect ratio.

Audio and subtitles

Both Cantonese and English DTS-HD Master Audio mono options are provided, along with new English subtitles created for this release.

Special features

The edition includes the Festival Cut, an alternate boardroom ending, and extensive new interviews alongside trailers and an image gallery.

Technical specifications

Shout! Studios’ release of Bullet in the Head joins several other newly restored John Woo titles. The Killer 4K UHD is scheduled to release in December, while both the A Better Tomorrow trilogy and Hard Boiled are arriving on 4K UHD in November.
