The Stendhal Syndrome 4K UHD Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome

Vinegar Syndrome is releasing The Stendhal Syndrome (1996) on 4K UHD and Blu-ray. This follows its recent announcement of the limited 4K release of Troll 2 (1990). It features a new scan and 4K restoration, a full set of extras, and limited slipcase and slipcover.

Film Overview

The film centers on Detective Anna Manni, who is investigating a serial rapist and murderer in Florence. While visiting the Uffizi Gallery, Anna experiences a dissociative episode tied to Stendhal syndrome, a rare condition in which individuals become overwhelmed when viewing great works of art. After the episode, she is attacked and raped by the killer, escaping only to face further psychological collapse. As she returns to her hometown to recover, Anna becomes increasingly unstable and senses that the assailant may not be finished with her.

Directed by Dario Argento, the film marks a notable point in his 1990s career and includes cinematography by Giuseppe Rotunno with a score by Ennio Morricone. The cast includes Asia Argento, Thomas Kretschmann, Marco Leonardi, Luigi Diberti, and Paolo Bonacelli.

Video and Audio Specs

The 4K UHD disc is presented in Dolby Vision High Dynamic Range and is newly scanned and restored in 4K from the 35mm original camera negative. The feature is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ration with Italian and English 5.1 Surround audio options.
