No Orchids for Miss Blandish and The Town That Dreaded Sundown out now on Blu-ray from 88 Films
Two titles first announced by 88 Films back in August — No Orchids for Miss Blandish (1948) and The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976) — are out now on Blu-ray in the UK. Both arrive as Region B limited editions featuring new artwork and select bonus features.
No Orchids for Miss Blandish (1948)
Directed by St. John Legh Clowes, No Orchids for Miss Blandish is a crime-fueled British noir starring Jack La Rue and Linden Travers. A jewel heist gone wrong entangles rival gangs in murder and ransom, establishing the film’s notoriety for its violence and sexual frankness in 1940s British cinema.
This limited edition includes a double-walled O-ring with artwork by Sean Longmore, a new commentary by Kim Newman and Barry Forshaw, and featurettes including Class War, A Shock to the System, Cheap Thrills, and Miss Blandish and the Censor.
The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976) — Slasher Classics Collection #57
Charles B. Pierce’s The Town That Dreaded Sundown joins 88 Films’ Slasher Classics Collection. Inspired by the Texarkana Moonlight Murders of 1946, the film follows a masked killer terrorizing a small Texas town. Shot on location with local extras, its documentary-like tone and rural realism have drawn comparisons to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
The Blu-ray includes new artwork, a reversible poster, and two commentaries — one with Kim Newman and Sean Hogan, another with Dave Wain and Matty Budrewicz — plus a featurette with Stephen Thrower.
Physical media enthusiasts can also look forward to 88 Films’ December releases, which include titles such as Sage of the Phoenix (1989) and Crash and Burn (1990).
