Imprint Films to Bring Golden Princess Film Library to Imprint Asia in 2026
Imprint Films announced that it has secured rights to the Golden Princess film library, and will incorporate it into its Imprint Asia collection in 2026. This library, which includes influential works by John Woo, Tsui Hark, and stars like Chow Yun-Fat and Tony Leung Chiu-wai, has been unavailable in North America, Europe and Australia for years, making this a significant event for enthusiasts and collectors of Hong Kong and Asian cinema.
The acquisition is crucial as it revives access to a pivotal era of Hong Kong cinema, which once ranked as the third largest film industry globally. Titles like "Hard Boiled" and "The Killer" have shaped action and martial arts genres worldwide and this move aligns with a resurgence of interest in Hong Kong cinema.
Notably, Shout! Studios, a multi-platform media company specializing in film and TV distribution, announced back in January that they secured the US rights to the same Golden Princess library while Arrow Films struck a deal with Shout! for the UK rights. Imprint and Shout! Studios' acquisition underscores the library's value and the interest in preserving and distributing these classics. Imprint Films' effort to bring these films to new audiences through Imprint Asia complements Shout! Studios' broader distribution strategy, ensuring that Hong Kong cinema's legacy continues to influence and inspire globally.
