Eureka Classics to Release Triple Threat- Three Films With Sammo Hung Blu-ray in December 2025

Sammo Hung helped redefine Hong Kong martial arts cinema in the late 1970s. Known for his work as a stuntman, choreographer, director, and actor, Hung became one of the leading figures of the industry. Eureka Classics is now releasing Triple Threat: Three Films With Sammo Hung, a limited edition Blu-ray collection that charts his rise from supporting roles to international stardom.

Overview of the collection

The set is limited to 2000 copies and brings three films to UK Blu-ray for the first time: The Manchu Boxer, Paper Marriage, and Shanghai, Shanghai. Each title is presented in 1080p from brand new 2K restorations of the original Hong Kong theatrical cuts. A bonus disc exclusive to this edition includes the extended international versions of The Manchu Boxer and Shanghai, Shanghai. The collection will be released on Dec. 8, 2025.

The films

The Manchu Boxer (1974)

Directed by Wu Ma, The Manchu Boxer features Sammo Hung as both the villain and fight choreographer. The plot follows a martial artist who enters a boxing tournament to confront a gang of bandits. The film showcases Hung’s early career, when his choreography was already shaping the look of Hong Kong action cinema.

Paper Marriage (1988)

By the late 1980s, Hung was firmly established as a star. In Alfred Cheung’s action comedy Paper Marriage, he plays a down-on-his-luck Chinese boxer living in Canada. Pressed by debt, he agrees to a sham marriage with an immigrant, played by Maggie Cheung, who wants Canadian citizenship. The film combines slapstick comedy with sharp fight scenes, reflecting Hung’s ability to shift between humor and action.

Shanghai, Shanghai (1990)

Set in 1930s Shanghai, Shanghai, Shanghai blends martial arts with crime drama. Yuen Biao stars as a young man searching for his police officer brother in the city. Hung appears as a ruthless gangster, delivering one of his darker performances. The film reflects the “heroic bloodshed” style that defined Hong Kong cinema at the time.
